PLOWED WRINKLES

QUERÉTARO, MEXICO, 2013

My grandmother's wrinkles have always been a fascination for me and I have portrayed them over the years. I believe that each of our stories are told through these wrinkles and that the human face expresses more than words can say. My grandmother's family is from Amealco, a small town in Querétaro. In the summer of 2013, I spent three months capturing “Plowed wrinkles”.

In Amealco, people tend to have children from a very young age. Therefore, there is a high probability of coincidence of multiple generations within the same household. Mutual accompaniment and care are parts of the role that both grandparents and grandchildren play in the family. As a result of my interaction with members of multi-generational households, I became interested in knowing more - the dreams, struggles, ideology, memories, and perceptions- of the members of this community, and the way these are shaped by the historical and cultural context in which they grew up.
